Giving Back - Some of the Causes we Support

  • SACK - Supporting A Community with Kindness

Donna, and those magic fingers, crocheted 100 Soap Sacks to donate at the 2023 Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet festival.

    (That’s 170 over the last 2 years)

What a great cause. Check them out… below is from their “about section” from their website.

    S.A.C.K.

In September of 2017, S.A.C.K. (Supporting A Community with Kindness), was started as a grassroots effort to connect people from all over the world while crocheting/knitting soap sacks and then donating them (with a bar of soap in each one) to homeless shelters, food pantries, veteran clinics, relief efforts and social service agencies.

  • Project Linus

2023 Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Festival; Donna made this beautiful “You are my Sunshine Blanket” for the Project Linus organization.

Add a blanket to your project list, and help out this great cause:, See their link below:

Their Mission: Providing Security Through Blankets...

Our mission is simple: to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. We do this by giving them gifts of new, handmade blankets, quilts and afghans, lovingly created for Project Linus by volunteer "blanketeers." The Blanketeers are part of our mission, as well: we seek to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

  • Bethany Community Ministries

The YarnSmith while attending the 2023 Pittsburgh Creative Arts Festival donated this custom blanket to be used for their Veteran Outreach Programs. This blanket is folded in half, and is “big boy sized” for us larger veterans.

The Shawl Project has donated many hand-crafted blankets and shawls to the homeless, veterans, and otherwise marginalized people in our local community and cities.

Part of what we wanted to do when starting the YarnSmith was to give back. Who better to partner with than BCM and all they do for the community.

  • Passing on the "Craft" bug

One of the greatest joy’s is sharing our experiences with family. Here is Delilah dying her first color wave, that ending up being a best seller “DD’s Fave”. This girl is not afraid of color - that is for sure.

    DD's Fave

Her and Donna share many craft projects, and she is always eager to help. She takes great pride in being “Crafty” like her Grammy.

We Owe it to ourselves to pass it on to the next generation. All young creators are always supported by the YarnSmith, stop in and see us.
